A Letter From Our Program Director

Welcome to the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship website. Accredited since 1998, UMass boasts one of the highest volume interventional cardiology programs in New England, encompassing high acuity PCI along with structural and peripheral vascular interventions. Seven full-time faculty interventional cardiologists offer a wide range of clinical and research interests. An active transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) program performs procedures regularly in a hybrid operating room environment. Because the interventional fellowship is deliberately kept small (2 interventional fellows per year), each fellow completes a high volume of procedures as primary operator and receives personalized mentoring that is helpful for both clinical and academic goals.

All interventional fellows participate in Interventional Cardiology conferences, Heart and Vascular Center conferences, teaching of junior cardiology fellows, outpatient continuity clinic, and ongoing clinical research trials in the UMass Memorial Catheterization Laboratory.

Program highlights include: 90% radial access PCI, 200-300 STEMI cases/year, POBA, stents, rotational and orbital atherectomy, thrombectomy, distal embolic protection, IVUS, iFR, FFR, OCT, IABP, Impella, Bipella, ECMO, TAVI, MitraClip, PFO/ASD closure, endovascular revascularization.

This website contains information about the UMass Interventional Cardiology fellowship, the program faculty, program curriculum, and other information important to future applicants. Please take time to explore the website and learn about our program and what we have to offer. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, the faculty or the program coordinator, Raechel Strom, should you have any questions.
