About the UMass Cancer Center

Located in Worcester, Massachusetts, the UMass Cancer Center is committed to providing exceptional patient care in partnership with UMass Memorial Health Care, as well as conducting cutting-edge research at the highest level, offering excellence in education and training, and serving as an educational resource and advocate for the Central Massachusetts community.

Patient Care

Our clinical partner is UMass Memorial Health Care, the region’s largest health care system and physician network in Central Massachusetts. Our doctors are dedicated to excellence in patient care—combining state-of the-art technologies to diagnose, treat and monitor cancer with compassionate care in a multispecialty, collaborative setting. Our talented, multidisciplinary teams include medical and surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and a team of support staff that includes technicians and nurse practitioners—with the common goal of providing outstanding individualized care and the latest in personalized treatment approaches. The UMass Cancer Center offers the largest selection of advanced clinical trials in Central Massachusetts; access to these resources enhances patient care by offering the most advanced diagnosis and treatment options.

In addition to addressing the specific medical needs of our patients, we promote health through preventive care, cancer screening, and by providing education, allowing the patient to better understand their disease process. We also offer survivors courses and clinics to ensure patients get the follow-up care that they need.

Research

The UMass Cancer Center is a powerhouse in cancer research. Our scientists and clinical researchers have been recruited from around the world and are leaders in their field, striving to develop innovative approaches for the detection, treatment and prevention of cancer through groundbreaking basic, translational, clinical and population-based research.

Clinical researchers at the UMass Cancer Center are actively engaged in cutting-edge clinical research trials, both at the local and national levels, to evaluate new chemotherapy treatment options for a variety of cancers, improve surgical procedures for quality and outcomes improvement, and identify novel markers for diagnostic and prognostic predictors of outcome. Complementing the clinical research are exceptionally strong basic and translational cancer research programs carryingout cutting-edge cancer research within outstanding scientific environments at UMass Chan Medical School and UMass Amherst.

Education

The UMass Cancer Center is dedicated to educating and training the next generation of cancer researchers, educators, clinicians and physician-scientists. We offer extensive education and training programs in undergraduate medical education, graduate and postdoctoral education, medical student, to residency and post-residency fellowship training.

Community Outreach

Our students, doctors and scientists strive to be active members of the Central Massachusetts community, providing education and advocacy that promote health and cancer prevention, as well as promoting science education in our local schools.

Our signature community event is the UMass Cancer Walk, which is held annually in September. It is the largest one-day, single-location fundraising event in Central Massachusetts and brings together thousands of individuals to celebrate their fundraising success. The money raised supports adult and pediatric cancer research and care, and clinical trials of new, potentially lifesaving therapies taking place right here in Central Massachusetts at the UMass Cancer Center. We invite you to join us!
