Resources for LGBTQIA+ Scientists

The BMB department strives to be a place where anyone can belong. Science is a deeply personal endeavor, and we therefore work to ensure scientists can bring their whole selves to their work here at UMass Chan if they so desire.

In general, many inclusive and supportive resources can be found on the Diversity and Inclusion Office (DIO) website, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) website, or the Human Relations (HR) website. We have curated some relevant resources from these sources and others below:

The Diversity and Inclusion Office (DIO) supports a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Allies (LGBTA) affinity group.

The DIO has developed documents to be shared internally with UMass Chan community members, including a Guidance/Checklist for the LGBTQ+ Community and Allies and a Leaders Guide to Respecting LGBTQ+ Community Members.

The DIO supports a Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Allies Committee as part of the Committee on Equal Opportunity and Diversity. This webpage maintains a list of LGBTQIA-related organizations and resources.

Students can share their identities on the UMass Chan Pride List to build community and encourage each other.

The QMass student interest group on Facebook works to improve the environment at UMass Chan for LGBTQIA+ community members.
