PICU Prep
Time to prepare for the PICU - there's much to do! Dr. Stefanie Gauguet is the director for this rotation. You'll need to do some coordinating/scheduling ahead of time. Please reach out to her if you need anything!

PICU Prep Rotation Outline
- Four Themed Weeks
- Respiratory
- Cardiology
- Neurology
- Shock
- Each week consists of:
- OpenPediatrics virtual lectures
- 1-2 attending-led didactic lectures
- 1 simulation session relevant to weekly theme
- 1-2 “hands-on” sessions
- Resident expectations
- Create a monthly schedule by reaching out to various providers to set up experiences
- Provide a completed schedule to the PICU team to monitor progress
- Complete all mandatory online videos on OpenPeds UMass channel
- Participate in simulation sessions and in-person lectures
- Join rounds and follow 1-2 patients
- Please refer to this Presenting guide
- Write a few notes and learn the admission/transfer/discharge navigators
- Attending expectations
- Give 1-2 resident lectures/week based on the weekly theme
- Run 1 simulation session/week that is relevant to the weekly theme

- Make sure to look through the PICU Rotation page including the guidebook
- You'll need to create a login to OpenPediatrics to do some online learning

- Review the critical care Topics above for an introduction to some common themes you will see on your rotation
