Neurology
Welcome to neurology! Here are the goals and objectives for your rotation.

- CHOP online neurology lecture series with a variety of topics, from malformations in brain development to epilepsy syndromes
- See the neurology topics within this site, including: headache, seizure, traumatic brain injury, and autism spectrum disorder
While rotating with the neuro team, these are key topics to focus on:
- Neurologic development including language, cognition, motor development, reflexes, and socialization
- Seizures, Status Epilepticus
- Transient neurological disturbances due to drug ingestions (e.g. benzodiazepines)
- Headaches
- Acute encephalopathy (e.g. metabolic, lead, hypertensive, anoxic, drug/toxin induced)
- Chronic / static encephalopathy
- Meningitis, Encephalitis
- Brain tumors
- Cerebral palsy
- Coma
- Craniosynostosis
- Hydrocephalus, Ventriculoperitoneal shunt infection/dysfunction
- Increased intracranial pressure
- Movement disorders (chorea, ataxia, tics)
- Intellectual disability
- Muscle weakness or flaccidity (e.g. Guillain-Barre, muscular dystrophy, hypotonia)
- Neurocutaneous syndromes
- Progressive loss of neurologic skills
- Trauma: Severe head trauma, Skull fractures, Spinal cord injuries
Don't forget to focus on common medications used, as well as imaging and testing modalities such as:
- Electroencephalogram (EEG)
- Head computerized tomography scan (CT)
- Head magnetic resonance scan (MR)
- Electromyography (EMG)
- Nerve conduction velocity (NCV)
- PET Scan
