Welcome to the Mental & Behavioral Health block!
Our intention with this elective is to equip pediatric residents with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to effectively recognize, diagnose, manage, and coordinate care for pediatric patients with mental and behavioral health conditions in the outpatient setting. This rotation will take place in two 2-week blocks, the first block taking place in 1st year and the second block taking place in third year of residency. This rotation is newer; please give us feedback. Thank you in advance!
Here, find your goals and objectives as well as a sample schedule.
You will receive a schedule via email from the pediatric chiefs prior to your block's start. Please double check that your schedule does not conflict with your continuity clinic and/or other required items. If it does conflict, please reach out directly to the contact person listed for that activity to 1) let them know of your absence and 2) ask if you can reschedule them for another time during the block. (Apologies for any and all mismatches!) The chiefs and/or Monick can be your go-to helpers as needed.
As an important curriculum piece, we ask that you complete the EMPOWER curriculum online during this elective. Find instructions on how to access it here.
Lastly, please browse through this list of landmark child psychiatry papers for additional learning. If you are looking for even more learning, consider a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry elective! There are additional resources on that rotation page.
