Development
What it is: References to learn developmental milestones, how great!
- Link to the CDC website to review important gross motor, fine motor, social, and language developmental milestones. Written in language for parents, simplistic. However, contains great short example videos of some developmental milestones that are a great reference, even to show parents at clinic visits.
- Link to MA ACT Early (DBP resource), which includes presentations given by faculty and current ASD testing resources.
Ideal Audience: Interns, especially those on PC month, as well as DBP elective.
Why it is great: The CDC site is great because it has simplistic language, video examples, and may be used as a reference for sophisticated caretakers. Also has links for hard copy printouts.
The MA Act Early site is has great slide show presentations that address the following (under presentations, half way down page)
- Dr. Andrianopolous - great overview of history of ASD and current research, as well as resident/medical professional review of exam findings and developmental milestones (more in depth, medical language)
- Dr. Choueiri - overview of developmental milestone and ASD screening
- Just Below: improving identification int he Worcest area - link to RITA-T (current autism testing, AWESOME resource, currently being used at UMass for Autism testing)
How to access it:
How much time to budget for this: Can review milestones for each developmental age in approx. 10 mins on the CDC website. Budget an hour or 2 to review the MA Act Early site.
Other thoughts/comments/advice: The CDC site is a good go-to source for parents, though may be simplistic for residents, and it does not review how to test physical exam for milestones. The MA Act Early presentations are more specific to residents, especially RITA-T testing.
