Job Search Support
Looking for a job after residency can be daunting, but have no fear! We look forward to supporting you in this journey! Here, find a general timeline and some resources. Remember that your mentor family, residency leadership, and others are available to provide support.
There are job opportunites (as well as some interesting fellowships, research opportunities, etc) that we hear about via e-mail or other networking. We will continue adding to the list all year long! Check out the current and prior year lists (you never know!).
August - September of your final residency year

- Begin to ask your mentors/primary care preceptors/colleagues about known job openings, advice on how to pick a practice, etc.

September - January
- Make a list of interesting job opportunities and set up interviews.
- In addition to the above search engines, here's a pro-tip from a recent grad:
- "If you're looking to apply in a certain region, simply going to Google maps, searching "pediatrics" and cold-calling every practice in the area can yield good results. I would just introduce myself and ask to speak with the practice manager. Many practices that may not be actively recruiting may decide to interview you because you're available and they're thinking of hiring in the next couple of years. I had about a 30% success rate with this."

- The Massachusetts Medical Society offers a Legal Advisory Plan, which is available to resident members for a reasonable cost (recently $95/year). They can provide a list of lawyers who can review a contract. E-mail lap@mms.org for support.
November - May **
- Interviews!
- ** It takes a variable amount of time (typically several months) for an employer to process credentialling and license paperwork. If you are aiming to start in July or August after graduation, aim to sign a job contract by March or April. (Or, plan in a glorious, long vacation! Just need to think about health insurance coverage during employment gaps.)
