Lawrence Rhein, MD, MPH

Lawrence Rhein, MD, MPH is the Division Chief of Neonatology at UMASS. In addition to neonatology, he is a board-certified in pediatric pulmonology.  As a result he is involved in clinical/translational research related to long-term pulmonary outcomes of neonatal lung diseases, especially bronchopulmonary dysplasia. He is also involved in studies that utilize long-term recorded oximetry to identify patterns of oxygen desaturation and determine which patterns of desaturation affect long-term neurodevelopmental and respiratory outcomes.

Dr. Rhein received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. He completed his pediatric residency, Chief Residency, and neonatal and pediatric pulmonology fellowships at Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston, MA.

Sanjay Aurora, MD, MPH

Sanjay Aurora, MD, MPH is the Medical Director of the NICU at UMASS. He is involved in clinical research related to simulation training for management of acute clinical situations in neonatology. I have also worked and presented papers at national meetings on treatment modification cohort comparison of narcotic abstinence syndrome and risk stratification of neonates with hyperbilirubinemia.

Dr. Aurora received his medical degree from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pediatrics, Pondicherry University, India. He completed his pediatric residency at Texas Tech University, and his neonatal fellowship at Joint Program in Neonatology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA.

Megan Calmus, MD

Megan Calmus, MD is the Associate Medical Director of the NICU at UMASS. She is active in clinical practice guideline development and outcomes assessment in the NICU.

Dr. Calmus received her medical degree from the State University of New York, Brooklyn, NY. She completed her pediatric residency at Long Island Jewish Cohen Children’s Medical Center, and her neonatal fellowship at Women and Infants’ Hospital of Rhode Island, Providence, RI.

Sherman Chu, DO

Sherman Chu, MD is the Director of Quality Improvement in the UMASS NICU. She is active in multiple QI initiatives in the NICU, including programs addressing Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, and decreasing BPD rates.

Dr. Chu received her medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine,, Old Westbury, NY. She completed her pediatric residency at New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY, and her neonatal fellowship at UMASS.

Nasim Gorji, DO

Nasim Gorji, DO is the Director of Trainee Education in the UMASS NICU. She is active in simulation training and curriculum development.

Dr. Gorji received her medical degree from the Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Vallejo, CA.  She completed her pediatric residency at University of Massachusetts, and her neonatal fellowship at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, MA.

Katherine Sullivan, MD, MPH

Dr. Sullivan is the active in clinical and translational research. Her current focus includes urinary biomarkers of kidney injury in premature infants.

Dr. Sullivan received her medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington DC.  She completed her pediatric residency and her neonatal fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH.
