Members of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine Class of 2026 gathered on Friday, May 29, for the annual awards breakfast and scholarship ceremony.

More than 35 awards were presented to graduating medical students and faculty members.

In his opening remarks, Terence R. Flotte, MD, the Elisabeth Chair for the Dean of Medicine, executive deputy chancellor, provost and dean of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine, encouraged the graduates to take a moment to consider the significance of receiving their Doctor of Medicine degrees, which will be conferred on Sunday, May 31, at the 53rd Commencement ceremony.

“Each and every one of you has reached a truly remarkable milestone in your careers and your lives. When you walk across that stage [at Commencement], I’ll have the privilege to hand to you a diploma. What you’re receiving is not just a degree, but a tremendous power to do good,” Dean Flotte said. “Even though this is a tremendous achievement, it's not an endpoint in your medical education, but really beginning a new phase.”

Anne Larkin, MD, the Celia and Isaac Haidak Professor in Medical Education, associate professor of surgery and vice provost and senior associate dean for educational affairs, promised the graduates that their achievements in medical school will continue to positively impact their future.

“What you have accomplished here and what you’ve done during medical school, has prepared you extremely well for what you’re going to embark upon in the next few years,” Dr. Larkin said. “You should be proud of yourselves, because I can tell you that we, as the faculty, are extremely proud of you.”

Chancellor Michael F. Collins presented the Chancellor’s Award, the highest award given to a graduating student, to Riley Magane, who matched in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
