Chancellor Collins discusses price transparency on Channel 5 and ‘Chronicle’

WCVB-TV’s NewsCenter 5 featured Chancellor Michael F. Collins in a Tuesday, Dec. 14, story about the troubling lack of price transparency in health care and the risks that poses to health care reform. Chancellor Collins discussed preliminary findings from an ongoing study conducted by the UMMS Department of Quantitative Health Sciences that is looking at whether consumers are able to find the true price of common medical procedures.

Channel 5 is focusing on health care this week with a series of pieces running on the 6 p.m. news and a half-hour special on the award-winning news magazine “Chronicle” on Thursday, Dec. 16.
Producers reached out to Chancellor Collins for his interest and expertise on the topic of price transparency. Last spring, Dr. Collins published an op-ed in the Telegram & Gazette on the subject; he also spoke about it during his Commencement address at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. As recently as last month, the Chancellor was invited to address the Massachusetts Association of Health Plans and discuss the UMMS transparency study.
