Scot Wolfe featured in RSRT video on genome editing for Rett Syndrome

Date Posted: Friday, August 15, 2025

Headshot of Scot Wolfe, PhDScot Wolfe, PhD, was recently featured in a video released by the Rett Syndrome Research Trust, spotlighting cutting-edge efforts to develop genome editing therapies for the devastating neurological disease.

Dr. Wolfe was featured alongside Erik Sontheimer, PhD, and Jonathan Watts, PhD, two scientists in the RNA Therapeutics Institute at UMass Chan. In March 2024, the trio received a $2.3 million grant from the Rett Syndrome Research Trust to advance genome editing approaches to correct mutations in MECP2, the root cause of the neurological disorder.

Dr. Wolfe's lab brings deep expertise in gene editing systems, aiming to lay the groundwork for a curative treatment for individuals affected by Rett Syndrome. In the video, he reflects on the uniquely collaborative environment at UMass Chan and shares his hopes that his lab’s efforts will one day lead to a cure.
