Curriculum
The curriculum comprises the entire training experience. Fellows can expect to learn from listening to lectures during a conference, seeing consults in the hospital, following up on results in the clinic, putting together slides for a presentation, writing the draft of a manuscript, performing various endoscopic maneuvers, and even teaching students, residents, and their GI colleagues. The results of the annual in-service training exam and published guidelines from the combined US-based GI and Hepatology societies, including GI-specific Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), are used to select the topics covered in our conferences. Faculty provide experience and expertise to division-wide discussions as well as during teaching rounds and clinic precepting. Fellows are expected to teach when providing consultative services and in a formal conference setting. Fellows are also encouraged to adopt a personal style of independent study to help acquire and solidify knowledge, especially in preparation for the annual AGA GI Training Exam (GTE) and eventually the ABIM GI Board Exam.
