Vandana Nagpal, MD - Tatnuck House Mentor

gibsonOriginally from India, Dr. Nagpal completed her medical residency and training at State University of New York in Buffalo where she was also a Chief Resident in Internal Medicine. She came to Massachusetts in 2014 and is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School and an Associate Chief of Palliative Care division at UMass Memorial Health.

Dr. Nagpal is passionate about medical education, quality improvement, communication skills and humanisim in medicine. She is one of the leaders in training our medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty in difficult, emotional conversations with seriously ill patients via simulation. She was also instrumental in developing a wellness program for Internal Medicine residency which has resulted in improved resident well-being through various small interventions during a regular workweek. UMass Internal medicine Residency recognized Dr. Nagpal with the Sarah Stone Excellence in Teaching Award in 2017 and she received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine award from Arnold P Gold Foundation in 2021. 

Vandana lives near Boston with her family and Bostion terrier Zoom; she enjoys reading, watching movies, and walking outside.
