The division’s research activities, led by Dr. Alok Kapoor, focus on outcomes research in acute care medicine for the older adult. This work includes:

  • Studying the use of self-reported function versus measured performance to predict an adverse postoperative course in older adult surgical patients.
  • The role of simulating medication administration in the home as a means to understand which older adults will develop adverse drug events or require re-hospitalization.
  • Measuring the comparative effectiveness of different options for prophylaxis against venous thromboembolism after surgery.
