2021 Hillman Innovations in Care (HIC) Program

Date Posted: Thursday, January 28, 2021

I’m pleased to give you and your colleagues advance notice that the 2021 Hillman Innovations in Care  (HIC) program will issue a special call for proposals that focus on racism and its impact on health.

Addressing and dismantling racism in its myriad forms – structural, interpersonal, and cultural – is a critical and constructive approach to advancing health equity and improving population health. Yet it is often overlooked in health philanthropy as a defining element in grantmaking initiatives.

This special iteration of the HIC program is looking for bold, creative, nursing-driven interventions that seek to mitigate the effects of racism on health, narrow gaps in health equity, and challenge conventional strategies for delivering and improving care to populations affected by racism.

Two 3-year grants of up to $600,000 each will be awarded.

Upcoming Key Dates

Tuesday, February 9
Official announcement of the HIC Racism and Health RFP. The application portal will be open and the RFP will be downloadable from the Rita & Alex Hillman Foundation (RAHF) website.

Who Should Apply
At RAHF, we believe that transformative ideas are as likely to come from community health clinics as from major academic research centers. We welcome applications by investigators from diverse backgrounds and from interdisciplinary teams, particularly if they include a nurse as Principal Investigator (PI), co-PI, or co-lead.

We ask for your help in sharing this opportunity with colleagues in your networks, particularly those whom you think would be strong candidates.

Former Hillman grantees (and those whose Hillman grants end by 2021) are eligible to apply. Current grantees interested in applying must first contact RAHF staff to receive special approval.

Many thanks and please be well and be safe.

Sincerely,

Ahrin Mishan
Executive Director
