Diversity & Inclusion

The Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing at the UMass Chan Medical School is a dynamic academic community where staff, students and faculty come together to advance the mission of preparing nurse scientists, advanced practice nurses, nurse educators and nurse leaders who will improve the health and well-being of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and beyond.

Our community of scholars, educators and learners strive to promote human dignity in all our endeavors. We acknowledge that to truly promote human dignity, we must recognize all dimensions of diversity and appreciate openness to differences in attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors. We strive to interact with difference around and among us with respect, kindness and trust. We believe in compassion and integrity. We hope that all our relationships are strengthened through our desires and actions to fully recognize, understand and make use of the contributions of others. We value excellence and strive to build our community so that all individuals and groups can reach their highest potential.

    Student Spotlight

I decided to gain my Adult-Gerontology Primary Care DNP from the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing at UMass Chan Medical School for the school’s reputation in community involvement. I am grateful for the support I have received from my classroom and clinical instructors as well as the mentors who have provided guidance and encouragement. The Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing will give me the opportunity to deliver evidence based clinical care and provide education locally and internationally.

    Student Spotlight

As an ICU nurse working through the most challenging pandemic peak, I realized how nursing philosophy could interplay with bedside nursing. I surprised myself with how specific nursing theories and philosophies connect with better patient outcomes. The Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing faculty's wealth of knowledge is outstanding and will support/guide students in their area of research interests to obtain a student’s goal of a PhD.
