Facing the biggest public health crisis of our time, the UMass Chan Medical School philanthropic community responded rapidly, and significantly, to fund important research projects that are making a difference in the trajectory of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At UMass Chan Medical School, more deserving medical students will get the support they need thanks to 11 new endowed scholarships established in fiscal year 2021.

The Eagles Autism Foundation awarded $400,000 to a research team led by David M. Cochran, MD, PhD, to study a biomarker-driven pharmacological treatment for autism spectrum disorder.

In keeping with a distinguished tradition of generosity, School of Medicine Classes of 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016 collectively donated more than $230,000 for financial aid and to support other needs throughout UMass Chan Medical School.

The Dan and Diane Riccio Fund for Neuroscience awarded four teams of researchers $50,000 seed grants for interdisciplinary collaborations leading to innovative discoveries that deepen understanding of normal brain function and what goes awry in neurological diseases.

With the funding, Ana Maldonado-Contreras, PhD, will tailor a novel diet created at UMass Chan Medical School to patients in Puerto Rico with different food availability and preferences.

Wagner Automotive Group of Shrewsbury donated the lease of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van to assist UMass Chan Medical School Vaccine Corps volunteers in delivering COVID-19 vaccines to special populations in Massachusetts.

With a grant from DCU for Kids, the charitable arm of Digital Federal Credit Union, Jessica Griffin of the UMass Chan Medical School Child Trauma Training Center can develop video training tools for parents.

The UMass ALS Cellucci Fund marked 10 years of steadfast and generous philanthropic support, as well as notable advances in ALS research. The Fund supports the boldest research ideas in the interdisciplinary labs under the direction of Robert H. Brown Jr., DPhil, MD.

Generous grant supports services provided by the Foster Child Evaluation Services (FaCES) program at UMass Chan Medical School to area families

Philanthropic donations totaling $435,000 were raised to support the Vaccine Corps launched by UMass Chan Medical School in early 2021.

Designed to amplify the impact of UMass Chan Medical School on the local community, the Remillard Family Community Service Fund provides support for community outreach programs.

Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020, was the 22nd annual—and first-ever virtual—UMass Cancer Walk and Run. Donors, fundraisers and sponsors maintained their steadfast support for cancer research and clinical trials at UMass Chan Medical School.
