Hyperpolarized Noble Gas MRI

A new advancement in imaging technology is increasing the chances of saving patients’ lives by helping physicians to more quickly and accurately diagnose and treat diseases. Hyperpolarized (HP) noble gas magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is emerging as a revolutionary new method to diagnose the early presence of disease with much greater sensitivity than previously possible.

Detection of disease presence in its early stages is crucial to the success of patient treatment. If diagnosed early, the effectiveness of a treatment increases dramatically and often allows for a decrease in the duration of treatment needed. In addition to increased sensitivity for early detection, HP gas MRI also provides a safe and non-invasive method for better evaluating how a particular drug or treatment is working.

Previous methods of imaging such as computed tomography (CT) and conventional MRI have not been able to provide the ease, safety and sensitivity provided by HP gas MRI.

Physicians will now be able to determine very subtle changes in a patient’s condition, allowing for greater optimization of care. Not only does this new imaging technique allow physicians to better understand a disease, it will greatly affect the quality of care a patient receives, allowing for greater quality of life as a patient’s health is restored.
