Academy Fellow
Become a member of the Academy's interprofessional Community of Educators. The Academy can help you to create opportunities to develop and further your educational expertise. It can foster your development and dissemination of educational scholarship. Contributions to the educational mission of the institution through the Academy can help you with promotion and tenure. These are just some of the benefits you can realize through joining the Academy.
Become a Fellow in the Academy. Fellows are typically early to mid-career educators at UMass Chan in their first 5-10 years on faculty who have chosen to focus on the work of a clinician-educator or scientist-educator and whose goal is to become an educational leader in their division, department, or in their school.
An ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate interest, and achievement in one of the following Academy focus areas and may be interested in others:
- Teaching and Learning
- Curriculum development and assessment
- Educational leadership
- Educational innovation
- Educational scholarship
- Research or Clinical Education and Mentoring
In joining the Academy, Fellows will have a considerable role in the Academy's work, committing to an initial 2-year Fellowship program and Fellows are expected to have subsequent involvement in Academy programs at the appropriate membership designation.
Contribution to the Academy includes:
- Participation in a two-year fellowship with the curriculum focused on the Academy focus areas
- Devotion of 15% time in the first year and 10% time in the second year to this fellowship
- Planning and carrying out a mentored scholarly educational project
- Submitting the project to peer reviewed local regional and national meetings
- Taking part in some teaching fellowship sessions in the second year to new first year fellows
- Participation in the planning and execution of Academy Education Days during the Fellowship
- Attendance at other Academy events
