Lessons in Learning: A Call for Narratives
Your story can inspire our learning community.
Teaching and learning are shaped by moments that linger—an unexpected outcome, a challenging relationship, a breakthrough after failure. Lessons in Learning was created to make space for those stories. This initiative recognizes that community grows when educators share the experiences that influence how they teach, learn, and lead. By elevating personal narratives, the program aims to inspire reflection, spark engagement, and draw attention to what makes educational experiences meaningful and transformative.
What it is and how it works:
Lessons in Learning is a narrative storytelling program inviting faculty from UMass Chan Medical School and its two regional campuses, UMass Chan-Lahey and UMass Chan-Baystate, to submit written essays (800–1500 words) describing a significant learning moment from their educational journey. Submissions are reviewed by narrative editors to ensure each piece clearly illustrates a lesson in learning, with revisions requested as needed. Accepted narratives are published on a HEALL SharePoint site accessible to the full UMass Chan community, with authors given the option to share their story in audio or video format.
The initial submission deadline is March 27, 2026, after which submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis to keep the collection active and growing.
