Overview
The goal of our research is to decipher the molecular-level mechanisms underlying biological function of proteins and how viral proteins develop resistance to current therapies. I apply analytical skills from my engineering background and expertise in experimental and computational biophysics to understanding the molecular processes involving proteins of biomedical interest. Understanding these molecular mechanisms enables formulation of strategies to design improved drugs that can avoid resistance. Our research with Dr. Celia Schiffer focuses on how mutations in a protein cause drug resistance, through eliciting changes in dynamics, structure, and/or interactions with other proteins or small molecules.
