UMass Chan Medical School faculty made new company pitches to leaders from nearly two dozen venture capital firms and other industry organizations.

Graduating PhD candidates in the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at UMass Chan Medical School were celebrated during an awards ceremony on May 28.

The classic science fair format was flipped at UMass Chan as Worcester high school students judged research posters by graduate students and postdocs.

Howard J. Sachs, MD, associate professor of medicine, delivered the Last Lecture titled “The Inevitable Journey.”

UMass Chan scientist Beth McCormick, PhD, was joined by representatives from nonprofits, human services, higher education and municipalities at the Office of Massachusetts Attorney General to talk about the Trump administration’s disruptions to federal funding. 

PhD candidate Emily Sholi has received an NIH fellowship to further her ribosome research, investigating how pathogens inhibit host ribosomes.

Jessica Spinelli, PhD, and Emma V. Watson, PhD’16, are the first UMass Chan faculty members to receive the award.

Roger J. Davis, PhD, FRS, has been awarded the 2026 Bert and Natalie Vallee Award in Biomedical Science from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

During the annual Recognition Ceremony, the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences celebrated 74 PhD candidates and MD/PhD students who successfully completed their qualifying exam in 2024-2025.

MD/PhD student and aspiring dermatologist Vincent Azzolino volunteers at Camp Discovery, a free summer camp funded by the American Academy of Dermatology, for children with chronic skin conditions. In the lab at UMass Chan, he studies enteroviruses and their drug resistance.
