Science Cafe: “Visualizing Viral Infection by Cryo-Electron Microscopy” | May 14, 2024
Cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) is a near-atomic resolution instrument that is used to study the structure and pathogenesis of viruses, including viral proteins, virus structure, and virus-antibody immune complexes in 3D. Cryo-EM has become a critical tool for studying viral particles, enhancing our understanding of viral assembly and replication processes at a molecular resolution.

Science Cafe: “Gene Regulation and Neurological Disorders” | March 19, 2024
It takes a long journey to go from DNA to proteins – the machines of biological functions. This journey requires precise regulation and disrupting this process can cause developmental disorders. In this Science Café, our researchers will describe their projects on how malfunctions in gene regulation can cause Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) such as Fragile X and Argonaute Syndrome.

Science Cafe: “Injury & Regeneration: the Self-Healing Potential” | May 17, 2023
Injury can be painful, but don't worry, some animals are able to regenerate their cells, tissues, and even whole bodies. How does the regeneration happen? What controls the regeneration? What can we learn from the regenerative animals to improve human health? Our fellows will discuss their exciting research projects on axon regeneration of the roundworm Caenorhabditis elegans and whole body regeneration of the acoel worm Hofstenia miamia.
