Division Chief's Message

Lemon photoWelcome to the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine in the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences at the UMass Chan Medical School!

Our work is guided by a shared passion for advancing our vision of “Healthy Behaviors, Healthy People and Healthy Communities”. Our inter-disciplinary faculty and staff study the role of health behaviors in the prevention and management of disease, develop interventions that promote health behavior change, and seek to broadly promote the implementation and dissemination of our work. Our research embraces partnerships with numerous health care, community and public health stakeholders and is committed to improving health and promoting health equity. We are home to four research and service centers: the CDC funded UMass Chan Prevention Research Center, the Center for Tobacco Treatment Research and Training, the Center for Applied Nutrition and the Center for Engagement and Skill Development, as well as the Community Engagement Core of the UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science.

We also have a strong commitment to training. As a division within the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences, we contribute to training the next generation of scientists in clinical and population health. Preventive and Behavioral Medicine, in collaboration with the Division of Health Informatics and Implementation Science, is home to two NIH-funded training awards. We also strive to integrate health promotion and disease prevention into the training of medical students, residents and other health care providers within the university and beyond.

We welcome you to review our website and learn more about us.
