Fourth Year Medical Student Emergency Department Rotation
Overview
The University of Massachusetts Department of Emergency Medicine offers a fourth year medical student elective rotation in Emergency Medicine. The rotation is clinically focused (Type A/subinternship) with emergency department experience, weekly Emergency Medicine conferences, prehospital care exposure in our university based ALS system and optional air medical experience with UMass Memorial LifeFlight.
The focus of the rotation is working in the department directly with patients under the supervision of the attending physician, similar to the experience of an Emergency Medicine intern. Rotation experiences occur primarily at the University campus with some exposure to the Memorial campus department.
The rotation generally follows the UMass Chan Medical School schedule, but time constraints from outside institutions are accommodated depending on available space.
