Equity & Diversity

The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) sponsors programs and initiatives to foster equity and diversity in the availability of resources and opportunities for advancement, focused particularly on minority and women faculty. AAMC Seminars: support for faculty to participate in AAMC Seminars for women and minorities.

Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM): a competitive and highly selective program focused on preparing senior women faculty to move into positions of institutional leadership.

Faculty Diversity Scholar Program (FDSP): this program supports the recruitment and career advancement of faculty from diverse backgrounds that are underrepresented in the health sciences.

Faculty Scholar Award: this award assists faculty during a finite period of increased family care responsibilities by providing professional assistance to continue research and/or scholarly effort.

Gender Equity Initiative (GEI): a study to investigate whether there were discrepancies in faculty compensation by gender or race.

Joy McCann Professorship: a three-year Professorship to identify and reward female faculty leadership in medical education, research, patient care and community service.

Women's Faculty Committee: The mission of the Women’s Faculty Committee is to address the needs of women faculty and promote the status of women at UMMS and in the UMass Memorial Health Care clinical system.

Work-Life and Faculty Flexibility: Work-life, also known as family-friendly, initiatives facilitate flexibility in academic careers. UMMS provides policies, procedures and resources to assist faculty achieve personal wellness and work-life balance.

OFA is accepting applications for the 2014-2015 program. Open to male and female faculty who have been an Assistant Professor 5-10 years and would like to advance to Associate Professor within the next two years.
