Master's of Science in Clinical Investigation Admissions Requirements

Eligibility Requirements  

Applicants must be a UMass Chan-affiliated MD, DO, DVM, DNP, PharmD, or PhD or MD student. Members of underrepresented groups in the sciences and medicine are particularly encouraged to apply. 

While no minimum grade point average is required for entry into the program, applicants must have successfully completed medical or graduate school from an accredited institution, with demonstrated superior academic performance. UMass Chan Medical School students applying to complete the MSCI during a one year leave of absence must have demonstrated superior academic performance in medical school. Applicants with some prior research experience are preferred. 

Admissions Process 

Complete applications contain the following, with a June 15th, 11:59pm (EST) deadline for Fall Entry and a December 1st, 11:59 (EST) deadline for Spring Entry:

  • Submitted application and non refundable $80 fee 
  • Unofficial transcripts from any college attended 
  • A personal statement of one to two pages describing your:
    • educational expectations
    • career aspirations
    • research experience
    • any special qualifications you may have
    • research areas of interest
    • potential mentors at UMass Chan Medical School
  • Resume or CV 
  • Two letters of recommendation from individuals who are able to assess past academic performance, research experience, and prospective success in graduate school. At least one letter should be from your director supervisor stating that you will have adequate protected time to complete the program.
