I received my PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park in Biochemistry in 1983. I moved to UMass Chan Medical School in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology (the predecessor to MaPS) to study phage and host recombination systems as a postdoc. I joined the faculty in 1989.
