Science in a Better Light: LED for Microscopes

Swapping out high-energy and environmentally problematic mercury lamps with new LED light sources for microscopes is the topic of a “coffee break” session at 10 a.m. on Nov. 21 in S5-220 of the main medical school building.

The session is part of Imaging Week, organized by the Sanderson Center for Optical Experimentation (SCOPE) at UMass Chan. Lab managers, research scientists and technicians are invited to attend. Registration is not required.

Representatives from CoolLED and lumencor will demonstrate their technologies and discuss the benefits of migrating to LED lighting for a range of microscopy applications.

Pastries and coffee will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own reusable hot cups to reduce waste. For more information about the Imaging Week see: https://umassmed.edu/scope/imagingweek/
