Tour a Recycling Plant

Ever wonder what happens to the recyclables collected on our campus? Their first stop is a Materials Recycling Facility in Westborough. Join us to see how the facility processes thousands of tons of recyclables each month. We have a strict limit of 10 guests for this trip, so please contact Kortni.Wroten@umassmed.edu  ASAP if you would like to attend. Transportation via electric van is provided.

Bee Campus Interest Group

UMass Chan seeks to become an affiliate of the Bee Campus USA program, designed to marshal the strengths of educational campuses for the benefit of the pollinators responsible for one in every three bites of food we consume. Come learn about the Bee Campus Committee and how it will work together with the University to benefit pollinators.

Earth Month Clean Energy Series: What is micronuclear energy?

Nuclear energy is getting smaller and is opening up some big opportunities for the industry. A handful of microreactor designs are under development in the United States and could be ready to roll out within the next decade. Hear from MIT’s Jacobo Buongiorno about the strengths and challenges with integrating this technology.

Take a Ride on the Smoothie Bike

It's a zero-carbon way to blend a delicious treat! The Office of Sustainability will be providing two flavors of free smoothies: avocado-spinach-apple, and strawberry-banana. Our Sustainability and Energy Manager will be there to tell you about ways to get involved with campus sustainability initiatives.

Green Labs Summit

UMass Chan’s Sustainability Office will host a summit to brainstorm ideas on greening our campus laboratories. The whole campus community, and particularly laboratory users, are invited to participate and share ideas on how we can act individually and collectively to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This event is tied to UMass Chan’s overall decarbonization efforts. Plan to join for the full summit or drop in.

Earth Day Outdoor Yoga

The actual Earth Day is the perfect opportunity to explore mindfulness, as we look for ways to give back to our life-sustaining planet. This is a special chance to develop lasting rituals in your yoga practice and in your life that nurture an eco-centric approach to everyday living and that have the potential to last all year round.

Home Electronics Recycling Collection

The ever-popular home electronics recycling event will take place in the Biotech 5 parking lot. Bring your home electronic devices and appliances. Most items will be accepted for free, while some have small fees that must be paid by check or in cash. See here for items accepted and fees.

Earth Day Clean-up at Lakeview School in Worcester

UMass Chan team for Working for Worcester 2023 will be doing outdoor work (raking, planting flowers, spreading mulch, etc) at Lake View School, 133 Coburn Ave. in Worcester. Lunch (pizza and waters) will be provided to all volunteers. Organized by UMass Chan Office of Community and Government Relations.
