BiographyUMass Chan Website Resident Bio: Hometown: Wilmington, NC Undergrad Institution: Furman University, BA – Cello performance Medical School: University of North Carolina Other degrees/information: UMass Chan Medical School – MSCI, University of Cincinnati – MS Future plans: Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery Why UMASS?: UMass Chan offers well rounded training in both the academic and community setting. Residents are well equipped to transition directly into clinical practice at the end of training, while those who choose to pursue additional subspecialty training have historically placed into excellent fellowship programs. At UMass Chan you will see complex disease typical of a tertiary referral center with Level 1 trauma, solid organ transplant, HIPEC, advanced minimally invasive/robotic surgery, etc. You will also gain valuable exposure to surgery in the community hospital setting through our rotations at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Milford Regional Medical Center. I personally chose UMass Chan based on the strong colorectal surgery presence. The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery is highly respected nationally as leaders in the field of minimally invasive rectal cancer surgery, are active in ASCRS, and hold editorial positions on the DCR journal. Oh yeah, I should mention that we are about 20 minutes away from one of the highest rated breweries in the world. Favorite thing to do in Worcester? I enjoy taking my kids to Tougas Farm to feed the goats, play on the playground, ride the tractors, and pick fruit (strawberries, blueberries, cherries, blackberries, peaches, apples, pumpkins).
