Letter from the Chair

Welcome to our late winter / early spring newsletter, as the ice is now thawing on the lake. In November I was honored to be named the inaugural UMass Memorial Chair in Radiology. I feel that this is really a recognition of the efforts of the entire department over the past 12 years to make Radiology an integral part of both the clinical system and medical school. Another major update has been incorporation of Milford Hospital into UMass Radiology on January 1, 2025. The addition of Milford will grow our annual departmental imaging volume to well over 1 million exams per year, and help us provide fully integrated imaging services throughout central Massachusetts.

Over the past several months we also celebrated Radiology Technologist Appreciation week, our departmental support for the Giving Tree Project, and the Neurointerventional Radiology “cookie swap”. Several faculty and trainees have been recognized and/or contributed to organizations outside of our department. I want to especially thank Norman Delongchamp for 42 years of service to Radiology department and wish him a wonderful retirement to share with his wife Kathy who retired from Radiology several years ago.
