Radiology Residency Applicant FAQs

UMMS requirements and how do I apply to the University of Massachusetts Medical School Radiology Residency Program?

A.  Applicants should review University of Massachusetts GME eligibility requirements found on the GME website - https://www.umassmed.edu/gme/future-residentsfellows/eligibile/.

All applicants must apply through ERAS.

What is application deadline?

A. We begin screening ERAS applications in September and offer interviews on a rolling basis until all slots are full.

What is the USMLE cutoff score?

A. There is no USMLE cutoff score; the screening committee reviews each application and considers the USMLE score in the context of the entire application.

How many letters of recommendation do you require?

A. We require 3 letters of recommendation.

Do you require clinical experience prior to radiology residency at UMass.

A. It is required that one ACGME-accredited clinical training year is completed prior to starting residency with us. Most of our residents complete internships in medicine, surgery, or transitional year programs.

Do you have a cutoff year of medical school graduation?

A. No, we do not have a cutoff year.

Does your program sponsor any Visas?

A. We support J1 visas.

How many applicants do you interview?

A. We interview approximately 86 applicants.

How long is the interview day?

A. We hold morning and afternoon sessions on each of the interview days. Each session is about 5 hours long. Specifics of the interview day will be determined once a candidate has selected an interview session.

Will there be an interview dinner?

A. Yes. Dinners take place either the night before or after the interview. Exact location and time will be determined once a candidate has selected an interview session.
