UMass Chan PRC offers internship to graduate students seeking to analyze data and write manuscripts

Title: UMass Chan Prevention Research Center (PRC) - Data Analyst and Writer Internship 

Semester: Spring, Summer 2019

Hours: 20-40 hours per week (unpaid)

Position Overview

The Data Analyst and Writer intern will have an opportunity to analyze data and write an associated manuscript from an applied research study that has recently been completed in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The UMass Chan PRC has recently completed the study called: Healthy Kids & FamiliesTM: Overcoming Social, Environmental and Family Barriers to Childhood Obesity Prevention, funded by the  US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from 2014-2019. The study tested the impact of a community health worker-delivered intervention aimed at helping families overcome barriers to childhood obesity prevention. The intervention was compared to a comparison condition aimed at helping families improve positive parenting skills. The study collected data with 247 adult-child pairs related to parenting self-efficacy, social norms and confidence; child behavior; emotional health; health status and history; demographics; diet; physical activity; weight perception; and body image.

 This internship may be appropriate for a graduate student seeking data for a doctoral dissertation or capstone project. A candidate could be interested in Psychology, Education, Social Work, Community Health, Education, Public Health, Epidemiology, Nutrition Sciences, Exercise Sciences or related field.

 The UMass Chan PRC Research Project Director will be the immediate supervisor for the position, with oversight from the Principal Investigator and the Academic Health Collaborative of Worcester Coordinator. If the intern chooses, this internship can meet requirements for academic credit.
