Thank you for your interest in the University of Massachusetts Medical School Pediatric Residency Program.

The UMass Medical School Pediatric Residency Program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).  Applications are only accepted through ERAS; there is no application deadline. Applicants selected to interview will be contacted via email by the Program Coordinator or Assistant Coordinator.

The UMass Medical School Pediatric Residency Program requires three Letters of Recommendation (LOR) from applicants.  It is not necessary that one of the LORs be from the Department Chair.  Instead, we prefer LORs from faculty members with whom you have worked closely, and who know you well.

We accept and review applications from DOs and will accept COMLEX scores in lieu of USMLE scores.  We do not have minimum score requirements, and do not require USMLE Step 2 Scores to apply.  However, passing USMLE Step 2 Scores are required by the institution prior to beginning a residency program here.

International Medical Graduates

  • We accept applications from international medical graduates who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • We accept J-1 visas sponsored by the ECFMG and clinical H visas in transfer. We only sponsor an H visa in very unusual circumstances.
  • International medical graduates must possess a valid ECFMG certificate.  Licensing in the state of Massachusetts requires passage of both USMLE Part I and USMLE Part II CK and II CS.
  • International medical graduates should be recent graduates of medical school.
  • We require applicants to have had significant clinical experience in the United States or Canada with supporting letters of reference.
  • The University of Massachusetts does not offer observerships or externships.
