The Sanderson Center for Optical Experimentation at UMass Chan Medical School announced a new collaboration with Leica Microsystems. The new Partner in Microscopy program will promote access to state-of-the-art imaging tools for the local community, educators and researchers in the Worcester area.

SCOPE at UMass Chan offers the tools and expertise required to perform a wide variety of quantitative microscopy techniques, including super resolution imaging, multiphoton intravital and live tissue imaging, confocal microscopy, and high-speed time-lapse imaging. SCOPE offers a combination of commercial and custom-built microscopes, allowing users to address an extensive array of biological questions.

The new partnership was announced at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 12, as part of the annual Imaging Week celebration on campus. Under the partnership, the SCOPE imaging core facility will gain access to Leica’s microscopy technology. This infusion of advanced tools will elevate research capabilities across a range of disciplines, from biology to medicine and beyond.

“We’re thrilled to embark on this partnership with Leica Microsystems,” said Christina Baer, PhD, associate professor of microbiology & physiological systems and director of SCOPE. “The collaboration allows us to push the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of microscopy, providing a vital resource to our local scientific community.”

“Leica Microsystems is proud to partner with UMass Chan and SCOPE Imaging Core lead by Dr. Baer,” said Ali Rajanek, regional sales manager, Northeast, of Leica Microsystems. “Through our partnership we aim to promote access to state-of-the-art imaging and data analysis tools to educators and researchers. Our mission is to learn from the community, work alongside them, and progress scientific discovery and education together with UMass Chan. We look forward to continuing this exciting alliance for years to come.”
