Due to the prevalence of COVID-19 infections and the rate at which the BA.4 and BA.5 variants are causing ‘breakthrough’ infections in people who are vaccinated, the requirement for all employees, students and visitors to wear a mask while inside UMass Chan buildings is once again being extended and will remain in effect until further notice.
Surgical masks will continue to be available at the lobby entrance of each building. Please remember that cloth masks are not permitted and, as always, individuals may elect to wear KN95 or N95 masks.
As a reminder, while the indoor mask mandate is in effect, masks may be removed only
- if you are alone in your office with the door closed;
- if you are alone in a cubicle and at least six feet away from others; or
- as briefly as possible while eating and physically distanced from others.

When working in clinical settings, clinical faculty, residents, fellows and students should follow the PPE and infection control guidelines specific to that given facility.
