New issue of @umasschan magazine celebrates $175 million gift from The Morningside Foundation

On Sept. 7, 2021, the UMass Board of Trustees announced that the largest gift in the history of the University was being made to the Medical School. What began with a letter from Chancellor Michael F. Collins to Gerald Chan of The Morningside Foundation in 2015 culminated in a gift that not only changed the name of the school, but promises to change the future of the commonwealth’s only public medical school.

The new issue of @umasschan magazine, published this month, chronicles the relationship between Chancellor Collins and Chan over the past six years and shares the “why” behind the gift in Chan’s own words.

The magazine, produced by the Office of Communications, also introduces two new members of the UMass Chan community who will use their unique talents to help shape the future of the institution, checks in on the BaccMD program, a 10-year-old initiative designed to increase diversity in medicine, and highlights the Meyers Health Care Institute, an unlikely but enduring partnership poised for its next 25 years of success.
