To accommodate the new education and research building now under construction on campus, a portion of the First Road garage facing the campus green will be demolished. The existing garage elevators and staircase will remain open and in service. The project does, however, include permanently rerouting the walkways from the elevator landings into the garage on floors 2 - 6 through an addition to the existing stair tower.
Construction of the addition will begin during the week of Dec. 9. Pedestrians are urged to pay special to attention to construction activity when accessing the garage or walking in the area between the Sherman Center and the garage. Signage and temporary guard rails will be installed to direct pedestrians along designated walkways. The sky bridge from the garage to the Sherman Center will remain open until early March, providing pedestrians a route that avoids the construction area.
