‘Private Guns, Public Health’ talk and book signing on Nov. 13

A talk and book signing by David Hemenway, PhD, author of Private Guns, Public Health will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The book explores the public health approach to preventing gun violence and analyzes research on guns and health.

Dr. Hemenway is an economist, professor of health policy at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and director of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center. He is former director of the Harvard Youth Violence Prevention Center and former president of the Society for the Advancement of Violence and Injury Research. In 2012 he was recognized by the CDC as one of the 20 “most influential injury and violence professionals over the past 20 years.”

Hemenway is also author of While We Were Sleeping: Success Stories in Injury and Violence Prevention.

Both books will be available for purchase.

The talk by Hemenway will take place in Amphitheatre I (S2-102) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A reception and book signing will precede the talk at 5 p.m. The Humanities in Medicine Committee of the Lamar Soutter Library and the Department of Surgery are co-sponsors of the event.
