It’s been almost five years since Rick Sacra, MD, assistant professor of family medicine & community health, contracted Ebola while treating pregnant women at a Liberian hospital during the height of the 2014 outbreak.
“We always did our best to protect ourselves, but Ebola is a disease where the amount required to be exposed is very, very tiny,” said Dr. Sacra, in a new Voices of UMassMed podcast.
Sacra looks back on his diagnosis, his treatment in isolation and his recovery in the podcast.
“I haven’t had any complications for a while now, so very happy to really have fully recovered,” he said.
