Twenty members of the School of Medicine Class of 2018 were inducted into the UMass Medical School Delta Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society during a ceremony held May 29. Three faculty members, five housestaff members and one alumnus were also inducted.

The inductees were welcomed to the society by Terence R. Flotte, MD, the Celia and Isaac Haidak Professor of Medical Education, executive deputy chancellor, provost and dean of the School of Medicine and councilor of the Delta Chapter, and said to have “exemplified high academic achievement, supported the ideals of humanism and promoted service to others.”

Joyce Rosenfeld, MD, assistant professor of emergency medicine, was recognized with the Volunteer Faculty Award.

The medical honor society, which was founded in 1902 at a time when medical education in this country was largely unregulated, serves to promote scholarship and research in medical schools, encourage a high standard of conduct among medical students and graduates and recognize high achievement in medical science, patient care and related fields. There are 132 chapters of AOA.
