Members of the UMass Medical School community are invited to Capstone Presentation Day on Wednesday, March 14. Posters for School of Medicine Class of 2018 capstone projects will be on display in the medical school lobbies from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a keynote presentation and awards ceremony in the Faculty Conference Room from 9 to 9:30 a.m., and short presentations featuring eight projects from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m.
Initiated in 2012 as a curricular requirement, the Capstone Scholarship and Discovery Course is an individualized, mentored, scholarly project undertaken across all four years of medical school. Capstone projects reflect the breadth and depth the educational opportunity affords students, and the diverse health care interests of the graduates. Projects represent endeavors in clinical care, community service, biomedical research, medical education and humanities.
The Class of 2018 capstones include clinical investigations in disciplines ranging from emergency medicine to radiology; public health initiatives, with several focusing on the opioid epidemic; and a variety of global health outreach undertaken in countries around the world.
