The annual Volunteer Fair at UMass Medical School is taking place on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Medical School lobbies. Now in its seventh year, the event is presented by the Office of Government and Community Relations in partnership with UMass Memorial Health Care and the United Way of Central Massachusetts to bring members of the academic health sciences center community together with volunteer opportunities in the broader Worcester area.

Many local non-profit agencies are participating, spanning the entire spectrum of community need, from health care to education, hunger initiatives to youth development, homelessness to the environment, and many more areas of critical need.

“The UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial community is tremendously generous, and many of you are already committed community volunteers,” said James Leary, vice chancellor for community and government relations. “But if you do not already volunteer and have always wanted to, this fair will give you the opportunity to learn how you may participate.”

In addition to local human services agencies, UMass Medical School’s Community Engagement Committee will be on hand to help connect agencies with students and faculty interested in incorporating greater community involvement in their teaching, research and education.
