Cancer Walk & Run draws hundreds to support research, patient care

The 18th annual UMass Medicine Cancer Walk & Run on Sunday, Sept. 25, brought together hundreds of people to raise money for cancer research and patient care, bringing in more than $350,000 for the UMass Medicine Cancer Center.

The top fundraising team was the Cancer Research Team, led by Michael R. Green, MD, PhD, Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, the Lambi and Sarah Adams Chair in Genetic Research, chair and professor of molecular, cell & cancer biology and professor of molecular medicine. Dr. Green is also director of the UMass Medical School Cancer Center and a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine. His team raised nearly $22,000.

      • Team UMass Five
      • South Street Striders
      • Surgeons Against Cancer

Since 1999, thousands of individuals, business leaders and community organizations have collectively raised more than $8 million through the UMass Medicine Cancer Walk & Run.

Fundraising efforts will continue through the end of the year, with the goal of raising $450,000. Those who personally raise $500 or more prior to Oct. 21 become a members of the 500 Club and are invited to participate in a recognition reception and research lab tours in mid-November.
