Photography by David Kennedy, PhD, professor of psychiatry, is featured in the next installation of the Artist in Residence Series at the Lamar Soutter Library. The show, called Depths of Field, will be on display from April 1 through May 31, with an opening reception on Thursday, April 7, at 5 p.m. on the first floor of the library.

Dr. Kennedy is also co-director of the Division of Neuroinformatics at the Child and Adolescent Neurodevelopment Initiative (CANDI) in the Department of Psychiatry.

“I take pictures of the inside of people's heads for a living; I take pictures of the outside world for fun,” said Kennedy in his artist’s statement.

“[This exhibit] represents a number of thematic collections from my digital era including landscape, neon, Animalia and flora. Within each theme, the ‘depth of field’ (a photographic term that represents the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image) is a tool I make constant use of to manipulate the way the photograph is captured and perceived.”

Proceeds from the sale of prints and note cards from the exhibit will support Autism Speaks.
