Join our #FiberDiet Twitter Chat on Thursday

What’s a Twitter Chat?

A Twitter chat is an opportunity for people to have a discussion about a specific topic on social media. Chats are public events. They are open to anyone who has a Twitter account. If you do not have a Twitter account, but would like to participate, you can create one for free here.

UMass Medical School (@UMassMedNow on Twitter) will host a #FiberDiet Twitter Chat on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 11:30 a.m. EST.

The #FiberDiet chat will cover questions related to a study led by Yunsheng Ma, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine, of UMass Medical School, and published February 16 in the Annals of Internal Medicine. It compared a simple, high-fiber diet to the complex American Heart Association diet. Dr. Ma and his research team found 30 grams of fiber a day resulted in almost as much weight loss as the AHA’s guidelines over the course of the year. Sherry Pagoto, PhD, associate professor of medicine and co-investigator on the study along with Ma, will discuss the results during the #FiberDiet chat. They will discuss everything from the study results to what makes a fiber diet work for people to how people can find the best sources of fiber each day.

To participate, simply use and follow the hashtag #FiberDiet on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to noon EST. Be sure to follow @DrYungShengMa, @DrSherryPagoto and @UMassMedNow.
