UMass Chan hazard mitigation plan progresses, public forum planned for Sept. 26

UMass Medical School is developing an all-hazards mitigation plan for the medical school. The purposes of this all-hazard mitigation plan are:

  • to assist UMMS in identifying and reducing its risk from natural and human-caused hazards;
  • identify actions that can be taken to prevent damage to property and loss of life; and
  • prioritize funding for mitigation efforts.

The development of this plan is funded by a grant allocated to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

UMMS will hold a public forum on Friday, Sept. 26, from 3 to 4 p.m. to discuss the draft hazard mitigation plan, highlight some of the hazards that could present risks to campus operations, and summarize potential mitigation strategies. The public forum will take place at UMass Medical School’s main Worcester campus in the Medical School building Amphitheater I, S2-102. Members of the hazard mitigation planning committee will give a brief presentation, answer questions and listen to community and stakeholder comments. Display boards will be available to help explain the planning process and summarize the key components of the draft hazard mitigation plan.

Students, faculty, staff and members of neighboring communities are invited to attend the forum to gather information and provide feedback.
