UMMS Fitness Center celebrates first anniversary with prizes, discounts and special classes

The UMass Medical School Fitness Center in the Albert Sherman Center is hosting a weeklong open house in celebration of its first year of operation. Members of the UMMS community are invited to stop by the Fitness Center, located on the third floor of the Sherman Center, during the week of May 5 to 9 to take part in the celebration, which includes a raffle, special classes and discounted enrollment.

Highlights include:

  • Special classes:
    • Rock ‘n’ Ride class at 5:10 p.m. on Monday ($10 donation to benefit the One Fund Boston);*
    • Zumba at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. ($5 donation to benefit the One Fund Boston);
    • Hip Hop at 5 p.m. on Thursday ($5 donation to benefit the One Fund Boston);* and
    • 15-minute boxing clinics, 8–10 a.m. and 1–2 p.m. on Friday.*

      *Preregistration required.
  • Waiver of the $29 enrollment fee for new members who sign up between May 5 and 8.
  • Happy hour on Wednesday, May 7, from 4 to 6 p.m., with free fruit and bottled water.
  • Raffle—entries for signing up for a membership and participating in the Fitness Center wellness programs. Prizes include two $25 gift cards, two Boston Strong t-shirts, and one free month of membership.
  • Exercise bingo, a wellness incentive challenge offered to current members, in which participants fill a spot on their bingo card for each class they attend.

Membership to the Fitness Center is $25 a month and there is no annual contract required. Membership includes 24/7 use of the facility; all group exercise classes and wellness programs are included.
